Dry Eye Nutrition – Vitamins, Omega-3, Astaxanthin and Fish Oil

Dry Eye Nutrition

Michael Lange OD, CNS 10/10/2011

Is dry eye nutrition overlooked? Learn how vitamins, fish oil, omega-3 and astaxanthin can help improve dry eyes. Is your dry eye nutrition affected by a low omega index? Dr. Michael P. Lange OD CNS discusses omega-3, eye nutrition, omega-3 fish oil, supplements, dry eye vitamins, omega fish, eye symptoms, health, dry eye symptoms, triglyceride form omega-3, supplements for dry eye, natural treatment of dry eyes, vitamins for dry eyes, 6mg of astaxanthin, dry eye condition, dry eye supplements, eye condition, eye diet, carotenoid, Fortifeye FOCUS, Fortifeye Complete One-A-Day and Fortifeye Super Omega.

dry eye nutrition
Dry eye nutriton can include diet, supplements, and a healthier lifestyle

Dry eye is something that affects all of us sooner or later in life. Most optometrists and ophthalmologists will treat dry eyes with topical artificial tears and prescription medications or punctal plugs. Many patients will get symptomatic relief with these traditional approaches for the treatment of dry eyes. However, very few doctors will discuss dry eye nutrition with their patients. I have seen the power of proper nutrition for dye eyes in clinical practice for almost 20 years. One of the most frequent questions I am asked on my live talks show “Ask The Doctor” is, “What are good supplements for dry eye?” or, “Are there dry eye vitamins that really work?” The answer is yes, there are many dry eye supplements and vitamins for dry eyes on the market today. However, “Do dry eye vitamins actually work?” is the big question. Dry eye nutrition is one of the key discussions I have with my patients at Lange Eye Care. Most patients I see with a dry eye condition have never been educated on the power of nutrition for dry eye treatment. People in today’s society want to become proactive in their overall health and are looking for a healthy option to medications. Natural dry eye treatments are becoming very popular because they work! A consumer must be very careful when shopping for dry eye vitamins over the counter at the local drug store or warehouse club because most of these over the counter supplements for dry eyes are filled with dyes, trans fats and synthetic derivatives that may actually cause harm with long term usage. The typical vitamins for dry eye that are available commercially are also usually relatively weak in concentration and may not have much therapeutic benefit.

Dry eye nutrition, vitamins and treatment

Fortifeye Super Omega Fish Oil
Fortifeye Super Omega Fish Oil is the newest, most concentrated and purified omega three fish oil by Fortifeye™

Dry eye nutrition consists of a dry eye diet as well as dry eye vitamins. Both of these work together in the natural treatment of dry eyes. When the traditional approaches for dry eye treatment are combined with the natural dry eye treatment it is even more effective. First and foremost I will make sure the patient adjusts their diet to one similar to the “paleo diet” and I will make sure they are drinking plenty of the correct fluids.

The next step in dry eye nutrition is to get the patient on a good triglyceride form omega-3 fish oil like Fortifeye Super Omega. The size of the patient and the severity of the dry eye condition will determine how many Fortifeye Super Omega gel caps I recommend. For anyone over 250 lbs I recommend 3-4 capsules or if they have a significant dry eye. For everyone else I recommend two Fortifeye Super Omegas a day. Fortifeye Super Omega has an EPA of 860 and a DHA of 580 in two gel caps. This omega 3 fish oil has been tested in an omega index study and is able to move the omega index on an average over 9.1%. This is a true therapeutic dosage in just two gel caps per day on most individuals. The average American has an omega index of only 4%. This is the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 in our blood. We are finding our patients with an omega index above 9% have fewer dry eye symptoms than the ones below this level.

Fortifeye Super Omega is being called dry eye fish oil by our patients that have reduced their dry eye symptoms while taking this form of omega-3 fish oil. Fortifeye Super Omega was developed as a chewable for those that can’t swallow it. It has a good lemon flavor and will not cause any burp back or after taste. This omega-3 fish oil is very similar in concentration to prescription fish oil that costs ten times the amount. I also recommend eating more sardines and wild Alaskan salmon as part of the dry eye diet.

Introducing astaxanthin – the super carotenoid

Fortifeye Focus
Fortifeye Focus is a combination of three carotenoids—astaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Many people suffering with dry eyes will benefit significantly from the addition of the Fortifeye Super Omega in a 2-4 per day dosage but some may need the addition of one more nutrient called astaxanthin. I have been using 6 mg of astaxanthin in patients that have dry tired eye symptoms with some very positive results.

Astaxanthin has many potential health benefits for the visual system and the entire body. Astaxanthin is a super carotenoid found in specific algae. This carotenoid at 6mg per day dosage can help to relieve tired fatigued eyes. Clinical studies have proven that 6mg of astaxanthin actually improves the focusing ability of the human eye.

Astaxanthin, dry eye nutrition and the omega index

Ever since I have seen the studies on astaxanthin I began using it clinically to help with eye fatigue. I have found that dry eyes and tired eyes go hand in hand and the addition of 6mg of astaxanthin (Fortifeye FOCUS) to 2 gel caps of Fortifeye Super Omega have been extremely helpful when used together in dry eye nutrition. Now routinely I use the combination of Fortifeye Super Omega and Fortifeye FOCUS as my supplements for dry eye. Many of our patients are omega-3 deficient and have an excess of omega-6. Simply by having an omega index blood study done the typical patient will see if they are deficient or not in omega-3. Once you get your omega index levels upward of 8% you are not only in a heart healthy zone but you will also be in the zone that may help decrease your dry eye symptoms.

A natural approach to dry eye supplements

Fortifeye Complete One-A-Day Multivitamin
Fortifeye Complete One-A-Day Multivitamin, an advanced formulation based on the latest clinical studies. It is a combination of synergistically blended whole foods, phytonutients, vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

In summary, dry eye nutrition works when taking the appropriate dry eye supplements combined with dietary and lifestyle modifications. Eat a “paleo” type of diet; get plenty of sleep, and no smoking or alcohol abuse. Drink half your body weight in ounces of filtered water every day. Take a minimum of 860 mg EPA and 580 DHA from a good triglyceride form omega-3 fish oil. Take 6mg of astaxanthin daily.

I also recommend taking a good multivitamin (Fortifeye Complete One-A-Day) with no beta carotene or vitamin A to ensure that there are no nutritional deficiencies that could interfere with the entire metabolic pathway. Try to see an eye care provider that is in tune with nutrition routinely as well. Here’s to your health!

Proper Nutrition and Dry Eyes

Proper Nutrition and Dry Eyes

Michael P. Lange OD, CNS, 10/24/2011

Dry eyes can be improved through proper nutrition. The vast majority of dry eye patients will notice a significant improvement in dry eye symptoms once the correct dietary and lifestyle modifications are implemented. Dry eye is a nutritionally responsive condition and this paper will discuss how proper diet and supplementation may improve subjective and objective signs and symptoms of dry eyes.

Most of our patients, whether fat or thin, are nutritionally compromised. Very rarely will you meet a patient that is of ideal body weight, medication free and on a truly healthful diet. As a clinician you will know at the first glance of your patient and after a brief discussion how critical a dramatic adjustment in their diet is going to be to their overall health and their dry eyes. Proper nutrition is one of the most important single factors in maintaining the health of our patients. Most people in today’s society are not getting the required vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids from the foods they are eating. We have become a society living ‘life on the go’ that is fueled by fast food and junk food. Our typical diet is caloric dense and nutrient deficient. Americans consume a diet that is unbalanced—with too many omega-6 fatty acids and not enough omega-3 fatty acids—leading to increased inflammation and disease in the body. This is associated with increased levels of cytokines, proteins that trigger inflammation. Inflammation is one of the root causes of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) and many other systemic diseases. Our foods are processed, sugar- and salt-laden, filled with trans fats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, synthetic dyes, chemicals and artificial sweeteners. These poor nutritional habits combined with a sedimentary lifestyle are why the health of the American people (our patients) is becoming compromised. America is home to the most obese people in the world. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) obesity in adults has increased by 60% within the past twenty years. A staggering 70% of American adults are overweight or obese and obesity related deaths have accelerated to more than 300,000 a year, second only to tobacco related deaths.

Dietary modifications and lifestyle changes

Dr. Lange recommends everyone learn the 'dirty dozen' fruits and vegetables
Dr. Lange recommends everyone learn the ‘dirty dozen’ fruits and vegetables

Most nutritional experts recommend 10-13 servings of organically grown fruits and vegetables a day. Americans are falling short of this amount and are becoming more and more nutritionally compromised. 70% of adults are not even consuming five portions of fruits and vegetables a day. The population that consumes the least amount of vegetables and fruits are more predisposed in developing disease and illness. These large and growing groups of people are nutritionally compromised and more prone to develop free radical damage in their bodies and eyes. These are the patients who are more prone to have dry eyes, cataracts and retinal disease. I have seen in clinical practice for close to twenty years the positive effects dietary modifications and lifestyle changes can have directly on ocular health and total body health.

I have finally come to the realization that patients who will follow a combination of the Mediterranean, paleo or hunter gatherer type of diet, eating more like our ancestors, along with regular exercise and proper sleep benefit significantly. This is a diet that consists of organically grown fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains, proteins and mainly water and a few other beverages. I recommend patients avoiding water that is in plastic bottles and drinking water that is filtered or in glass bottles due to the potential for bisphenols leaching into the water from the plastic. Bisphenols cause endocrine disruption which will compound a dry eye problem. Bisphenols are in plastic bottles as well as in canned foods. F, D and C red yellow and blue dye can also cause endocrine disruption and so should be avoided. Dyes are in just about everything we consume these days, so teach your patients to be proactive in their health and read labels. I recommend patients try to consume half their body weight in ounces of good quality water daily. I also advise patients to try to substitute their morning coffee with organic green tea and lemon. The antioxidant and anti inflammatory effects of green tea and lemon have significant health benefits and many of my patients will notice symptomatic relief of their dry eyes from this one simple step. I advise my patients to try to eat 10-13 servings of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. I recommend “the dirty dozen” fruits and vegetables be only organically grown due to their high amounts of pesticide found inside this specific group. Most of us have an accumulated build up of pesticide exposure in our bodies due to numerous years of exposure. This “chemical burden” leads to a variety of serious health issues that may potentiate a dry eye condition. The protein in this particular type of diet should always be free range organically raised or wild, not farm raised! Try to get your patients to eat fish at least three times per week to improve the omega three to omega 6 ratio in their blood. The fish that is highest in omega three and lowest in potential contaminants are sardines, anchovies, herring, mackerel, wild rainbow trout and wild Alaskan salmon. Some of your patients will follow your directions precisely; however the majority is going to wonder off of these specific recommendations. This is why supplementation with antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids is so important.

Blood chemistry testing

How do you know the specific nutritional status of your patients without testing them? The only accurate way to test for these deficiencies is through blood testing. We will routinely do three special blood tests to gain valuable insight into the nutritional health of our patients. A SpectraCell intracellular blood test, vitamin D 25 OH and an omega-3 index test will help determine what your patient’s nutritional status is and if they have nutritionally modifiable risk factors for ocular conditions like dry eyes. You will quickly see that almost everyone you test is deficient in antioxidants and omega three. Many of these patients will also have elevated CRP, homocystein, triglycerides, cholesterol and arachidonic acid. The majority of these blood chemistries can be positively impacted through proper nutrition. The poor results on these tests can help motivate your patients to making these crucial dietary and lifestyle modifications that will positively impact their overall health. After reviewing the results of these tests with your patients they will finally understand the benefit of proper supplementation. Realistically, due to these tests not being covered by Medicare or insurance, not everyone will be able to have these tests done because of the cost. Let’s now review the specific protocol that is working extremely well with the dry eye population.

Omega-3 fish oil

The majority of large clinical studies that have documented the positive health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids have utilized fish or fish oil consumption. There is a multitude of positive studies supporting the beneficial health aspects of a higher consumption of omega-3 from fish oil or fish. The medical community has readily embraced these positive health benefits and is prescribing and recommending fish oil supplements to their patients. The increased public awareness regarding omega 3 fish oil has created an omega-3 explosion. Consumers that are in tune with prevention and wellness are becoming proactive in their health and practicing prevention by consuming more fish or purchasing fish oil supplements from the drug store, health food store or through the Internet. However, one must be careful with consuming too much fish because of the potential contaminants that are in particular types of fish. With all of the contamination in the oceans it is becoming more and more difficult to recommend consuming large amounts of fish. The consumer or patient must also be aware that all fish oil is not created equal! The health care professional should be educating their patients on the benefits of proper omega-3 supplementation.

Fish Oil Demo with Dr Michael Lange
Ethyl ester based fish oil eats Styrofoam!

Omega-3 fish oil has two readily available forms: ethyl ester fish oil and triglyceride form fish oil. I recommend purchasing the triglyceride form fish oil over the ethyl ester version of omega-3 fish oil for a variety of reasons. The ethyl ester form of fish oil is highly unstable and therefore it can oxidize and become rancid quicker than the triglyceride form of fish oil. Many of the ethyl ester fish oils may become rancid before you purchase them. This is one of the reasons many people get a nasty aftertaste or have problems burping up an unpleasant fish taste from the ethyl ester form of fish oil. Studies also indicate that the triglyceride form omega-3 fish oil absorbs much faster and more efficiently therefore increasing bio availability. Most fish oil that is being sold OTC or as a prescription in the United States is the ethyl ester version because it is significantly less expensive to manufacture. The final phase in the purification of a triglyceride form of fish oil requires the ethyl ester molecule to be cleaved off and replaced with a triglyceride molecule, thus making it a more natural omega-3 fish oil than the ethyl ester version. The triglyceride form of omega-3 fish oils are extremely pure and concentrated making them the ideal choice for your patients. If you do not know if your fish oil is an ethyl ester version or triglyceride version you should call the customer service department on the back of the bottle. You can also squeeze the contents of your fish oil into a Styrofoam cup and watch for the chemical reaction. If the cup begins to dissolve after 10 to 20 minutes, then you have an ethyl ester form. However, some fish oils with very low concentrations of ethyl ester fish oil may not dissolve the cup. When shopping for the best triglyceride form fish oil, look for high levels of EPA and DHA. I recommend finding an omega-3 fish oil supplement that has an EPA between 400-450 per gel cap and a DHA around 250-300 per gel cap. These are the levels I have studied using the latest in omega-3 blood testing and have found that the consumption of two gel caps a day of this concentration can increase your omega index to a desirable level over 8%. This omega-3 index measures the concentration of EPA and DHA as a percent of total essential fatty acids in the red blood cell membranes. Recent research is proving that the desirable level for cardio protection is an omega index over 8%. This research claims that levels greater than 8% correlate with a 90% reduction in the potential for a fatal heart attack. The vast majority of Americans have an omega index closer to 4%.

Best sources of omega-3

Fortifeye Super Omega Fish Oil
Fortifeye Super Omega Fish Oil

My research team and I have tested a variety of omega-3 oils from flax, krill and ethyl ester fish oils and have not found nearly the improvements in the omega index with these other types of omega-3 fatty acids. So all omega-3 supplements are not created equal! Most of the inferior brands of fish oil and krill oil you can purchase OTC have no therapeutic value and won’t move the omega index very much. Many of the OTC fish oils are also filled with higher than the acceptable amounts of contaminants like PCB. Is this something you want to recommend to your patients? After years of study, a lot of trial and error and a one month research trip to Norway, I developed a highly purified triglyceride omega-3 fish oil concentrate with an outstanding 1600mg of omega-3 (EPA 860mg, DHA 580mg) in just two gel caps! The teams at Fortifeye Vitamins and the Omega 3 Test have been actively studying the influence of two daily capsules of this concentrated Super Omega on blood levels of omega-3 and the results have been astounding! After just thirty days, mean blood levels of omega-3 have increased from 4.2% to 9.1% with some patients as high as 11%! The results are a true testament to the benefits of proper levels of omega-3 supplementation. These are the levels that have produced positive results in our dry eye population. Most patients do quite well on two per day dosing of these levels and will start to experience symptomatic relief in 1-3 months. If the patient is over 250 lbs or has a significant dry eye problem I would recommend doubling the dosage. We have positive results using these levels of omega-3 fish oil with our MGD patients, those with recurrent hordeolums, conjunctivitis, chronic low grade uveitis, blepharitis and we are even seeing positive impact on our diabetic maculopathies and macular degeneration patients. Based on the current world wide research available, combined with the ongoing research being done at Fortifeye Vitamins, I feel the primary eye care provider should be making omega-3 recommendations to all of their patients. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the two principal EFAs (essential fatty acids) found in fish known as omega-3 fatty acids. The current research suggests the anti-inflammatory effects of fish oil may help with dry eye syndrome. EPA generates the anti-inflammatory eicosanoids prostaglandin E3 and leukotriene B5. If the concentration of EPA is high enough the EPA blocks the delta-5 desaturase enzymatic step that stops the conversion of omega-6 EFAs to the inflammatory cascade of arachidonic acid (AA). This allows more conversion to anti-inflammatory prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). PGE1 then binds to EP2 and EP4 receptors to activate adenylate cyclase and increase cyclic AMP (adenosine monophosphate) which in turn stimulates a healthier tear production. DHA also decreases production of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids and helps to balance the body’s response to inflammation. Both EPA and DHA contribute to reducing inflammation in somewhat different but complementary mechanisms. The increase in omega-3 EFAs has also shown to improve dysfunction in the meibomian gland with a much thinner and clearer meibomian gland secretion, thus helping with meibomian gland dysfunction. The increased consumption of a triple molecularly distilled and concentrated triglyceride form omega-3 fish oil will help to get the balance between omega-6 and omega-3 in better harmony and allows for less inflammation in the body and eyes. Americans have too high a percentage of pro-inflammatory omega-6 in their diet. The addition of some good omega-3 fish oil is the start to a healthier body and visual system.

Astaxanthin

Fortifeye Focus
Fortifeye Focus – An astaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin super carotenoid supplement designed and recommended by Dr. Michael Lange, OD CNS.

A relatively new nutrient used in supplements that comes from the micro alga haematococcus pluvialis, astaxanthin is proving to have multiple health benefits. The super carotenoid astaxanthin is the reason lobsters, shrimp, crabs and wild salmon have a reddish color. Astaxanthin is an extremely potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Clinical studies have now proven that 6mg of astaxanthin can improve the blood flow to the eye and actually aid in accommodation (focusing) and in reducing eye fatigue. Astaxanthin reduces inflammatory markers such as C reactive protein (CRP), nitric oxide synthase (NOS), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Astaxanthin is documented with high potencies for neutralizing oxygen radicals. For example, it is 550 times more powerful than vitamin E and 40 times more powerful than beta-carotene against singlet oxygen radicals. These remarkable aspects of astaxanthin are why Fortifeye Vitamins and The Lange Eye Institute are involved in some ongoing clinical blood studies to look more carefully at the anti inflammatory properties of astaxanthin. Early data shows that when combined with Fortifeye Super Omega, 6 mg of astaxanthin is lowering arachidonic acid levels more than the fish oil alone. Studies also indicate that astaxanthin may help in muscle recovery and reduce muscle fatigue. Many patients taking supplemental astaxanthin have also noticed the sun block properties this powerful antioxidant exhibits. Astaxanthin has also been linked to healthier skin and less fine lines and wrinkles have been documented after taking astaxanthin for a few months. Astaxanthin is a truly unique nutrient with some incredible health benefits. I have been very impressed with the potential ocular and overall health benefits of astaxanthin. Dry eye and eye fatigue often times go hand in hand especially in computer vision syndrome (CVS). The typical patient that comes in complaining of eyes that feel tired, fatigued, dry, sandy and gritty after working on the computer for prolonged periods of time are the ones that will benefit from adding 6mg of astaxanthin to their supplement regiment. I will usually start these patients on a combination of omega-3 fish oil and 6 mg of astaxanthin and after three months many of these patients’ symptoms have resolved or improved significantly. These patients will also commonly report an improvement in many other areas: less joint pain, healthier skin, improved energy, improved muscle recovery, more endurance, improvement in focusing and many more. I have seen a synergy with triglyceride form fish oil while using astaxanthin in my dry eye population. If patients are not experiencing the relief they are looking for on omega-3 supplementation alone I will add 6 mg of astaxanthin and see the patient back in three months for follow up. I have been amazed at the positive feedback I have received from these patients. Not only are these patients improving subjectively but their objective signs of dry eye are also improving. I think astaxanthin has a place in eye care especially for the patients who are looking for a more natural approach to help with their dry tired eyes. Think about how many patients the combination of omega-3 and astaxanthin may help in your practice. Just about everyone these days is experiencing some form of dry and fatigued eye symptomology throughout the day. Patients are grateful when you help solve their complaints without recommending surgery or medication.

Gamma-linolenic acid

The moderate to marked dry eye patients may need one additional nutrient in conjunction with the omega-3 and astaxanthin to maximize the nutritional approach for dry eyes. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an essential fatty acid (EFA) in the omega-6 family that is found mainly in plant seed oils. The three most common plant seed oils where GLA are found are borage seed oil, black currant oil and evening primrose oil. GLA is broken down in the body to dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) and arachidonic acid (AA). DGLA competes with AA and prevents the negative inflammatory effects that AA would otherwise cause. Adequate amounts of magnesium, zinc and vitamins C, B3 and B6 help to promote the conversion of GLA to DGLA rather than AA. It is fairly rare that our patients will have deficiencies in these areas if eating the appropriate foods. However, many of our patients are not getting the appropriate nutrition in their diet and must supplement with a good whole body anti-oxidant. Running a SpectraCell nutritional blood panel may help find many surprising nutritional deficiencies your patients have. Researchers in Japan have shown that astaxanthin may suppress the cyclooxygenase enzyme and decrease the amount of pro-inflammatory PGE2 produced. Once the AA pathway is blocked the DGLA is free to convert to anti-inflammatory prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) and stimulation of tear production occurs. Recent studies suggest that oral GLA supplementation improved dry eye both clinically and subjectively in patients with dry eye syndrome. Studies also show that patients who take a combination of linoleic acid (LA) and gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) prior to and after refractive surgery may have better tear production and less dry eye complications. Studies utilizing GLA and omega -3 fish oil have shown an additive anti-inflammatory effect with no elevation in arachidonic acid. Due to the extremely high amounts of omega-6 in most diets I began studying different ratios of omega-3 and GLA and have decided to use a ratio of approximately 10 to 1 omega-3 to omega-6 (GLA) to maximize the anti-inflammatory effects and gain full advantage of both types of essential fatty acids. If the ratio of omega-6 (GLA) to omega-3 is too high in the omega-6 direction then the possibility of more inflammation related to the high omega-6 low omega-3 ratio exists. Currently for my more advanced dry eye cases I have been using 1600 mg of triglyceride form omega-3, 160 mg of GLA from black currant seed oil, 6mg of astaxanthin and a good whole body anti-oxidant with great results. These patients not only experience ocular health benefits but also notice many general health benefits as well. It is time that both optometrists and ophthalmologists start to utilize the power of proper nutrition to help their patients. It is a win-win for everyone involved.

I really think having educational information as well as supplements available at your office is the smart way to go. This enables the doctor to have some control over the quality of supplements the patient is taking. Once the patient walks out of your door they may buy the cheapest thing they can find on the Internet or warehouse club that has no therapeutic value whatsoever! Educating your entire staff on the importance of proper nutrition is very important as well. Everyone from the front desk to the technicians should be educated on the benefits of proper nutrition. It is a team approach.

Macular Degeneration Treatment, Macular Degeneration Vitamins & Retina Care in Ocala, Gainesville, The Villages and Clearwater

Macular Degeneration Treatment, Macular Degeneration Vitamins & Retina Care in Ocala, Gainesville, The Villages and Clearwater

Macular degeneration research at Lange Eye Care in Ocala, Florida, is using the latest in nutrition and vitamins for macular degeneration.

Topcon® 3D OCT - New Technology at Lange Eye Care
Topcon® 3D OCT, a new technology at Lange Eye Care. The New Topcon OCT enables the doctors at Lange Eye Care to have the most advanced diagnostic technology to aid them in making the most accurate and early diagnosis of diseases of the eye. This technology will help to detect vision threatening diseases much earlier and thus initiate treatment earlier for a better visual outcome.

If you are looking for the very latest in macular degeneration treatment and macular degeneration surgery, Lange Eye Care in Ocala and Gainesville may be what you are looking for. Ocala retina care and Gainesville retina care has many different options. If you have macular degeneration, think very carefully where you want to go.

What is Macular Degeneration?

What is macular degeneration? Macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision impairment and legal blindness in the United States after the age of 55. Much of this progressive vision loss is unnecessary! The typical American is eating a diet that is convenient and quick. These foods are high in omega six, low in omega three, high in saturated fat, high in sugar, high in salt and overly processed and preserved. Americans are rapidly becoming an obese nation due to their poor dietary habits and sedimentary lifestyle. The foods are nutrient depleted and therefore the vast majority of the population is becoming sluggish and tired with no energy and as a result is becoming over weight. Obesity is a cause for many systemic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, elevated homocystein and elevated C-reactive protein. All of these are modifiable risk factors for macular degeneration.

Dry Macular Degeneration Treatment in Ocala, Gainesville, The Villages

Patients with macular degeneration need to see a doctor that is in tune with the latest in nutrition that will help their patient become proactive in their current and future health. Many patients when counseled on proper nutrition and lifestyle adjustments can actually slow down the degenerative aspects of macular degeneration. Dry macular degeneration treatment now consists of eye vitamins, lifestyle and dietary adjustments. The combinations of these three are considered treatment for dry macular degeneration.

Nutritional Retina Care in Ocala

Fourier Domain OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography. This new technology commonly known as Fourier Domain OCT or Spectral Domain OCT makes it possible to visualize large areas of the retina, significantly enhancing OCT’s diagnostic utility. Lange Eye Care is the only optical group to have this technology in the five county radius.

Lange Eye Care has doctors on staff who are in tune with all the latest in nutritional intervention and lifestyle modifications for macular degeneration. Many of the doctors at Lange Eye Care are involved in macular degeneration research using the latest in proper nutrition and vitamins for macular degeneration. Nutritional retina care in Ocala is an area that Dr. Lange and his staff of optometrists and ophthalmologists are involved in. Dr. Lange states, “I have also seen many patients actually improve when their diet, supplements and lifestyles are adjusted.”

New Treatment for Macular Degeneration

It takes discipline for a patient to follow the appropriate dietary and lifestyle modification plan. Dr. Lange likes to start out with a complete nutritional blood test (SpectraCell) that looks at all blood chemistries and also looks for any nutritional deficiency a patient may have. He also likes to get a vitamin D, 25-OH blood test and an omega-3 /omega-6 blood test. The combination of these tests will enable the doctor to develop a customized nutrition plan that is individualized for each patient based on scientific objective data. If the patient is put on a proper diet and/or supplement plan many of their nutritional deficiencies will resolve. This is crucial for great retina care in Ocala, Dr. Lange asserts. These nutritional deficiencies are corrected, then systemic health issues that are risks for macular degeneration may start to resolve. The staff at Lange Eye Care and Dr. Michael Lange have been using this philosophy for many years with great success when dealing with macular degeneration patients in Ocala and Gainesville.

Macular Degeneration Vitamins

Omega-3, B-12, glutathione and vitamin D-3 deficiencies are quite prevalent in the macular degeneration population in the Ocala and Gainesville areas. All four of these deficiencies are modifiable risk factors that can be changed very quickly with proper diet and supplements without using medication. Once these deficiencies are corrected we see pro inflammatory omega-6, arachidonic acid and C-reactive protein levels improving. Many patients will also notice an improvement in their cholesterol, homocystein and triglycerides once these nutritional deficiencies are eliminated. When the nutritional deficiencies start to resolve the patient will have more energy and a better sense of well being. These improvements will enable them to start a more vigorous exercise routine of both cardio and weight bearing exercises that will improve circulation to the eye and entire body and aid in this nutritional rehabilitation.

Sleep Deprivation, Inflammation and Stress

One more very important part to the equation for macular degeneration patients is proper amount of sleep. Sleep deprivation is another cause of inflammation and the build up of a stress hormone called cortisol in the body. “The proper amount of sleep combined with nutritional rehabilitation is very powerful at quelling the fires of inflammation in the body,” says Dr. Michael Lange, optometrist and nutrition specialist with Lange Eye Care. Proper nutrition, exercise and proper sleep act synergistically at promoting good overall health and good ocular health. These combinations can be considered a form of treatment for macular degeneration. Dr. Lange states, “Macular degeneration treatment doesn’t always entail medications, injections and surgery.”

Vitamins for Macular Degeneration

Vitamins for macular degeneration are becoming mainstream and treatment of choice for the dry form of macular degeneration. Eye vitamins should be recommended by the doctor once a diagnosis of macular degeneration is made. The eye care provider needs to work very closely with the patient’s primary care physician, internist and cardiologist to complete the team approach of total health care for each patient. The eye is the window to the body and only the optometrist or ophthalmologist is trained at looking carefully at the structures inside the eye. The optometrist and ophthalmologist can look at the vascular and nerve networks in the eye and see how systemic disease, medication and diet can have profound effects.

Macular Degeneration Research

Meet Arlene!

Arlene Clark is manager and head of customer service of Fortifeye Vitamins.

As the newest member of the Fortifeye family, Arlene is the girl on the other end of the phone, taking orders and making sure your customer experience is what it’s supposed to be. Arlene was hired in November of 2010, and is a walking testimonial that Fortifeye works.

Arlene Clark, manager and head of customer service at FortifeyeFrom a girl who was ill to now being an energetic, happy person that gives her customers her all, Arlene shows everyone the transformation that can happen with the right nutrition.

Happy customers

“I’ve been getting a lot of calls about dry eyes. And I’m amazed because a lot of the customers have been on the omega-3 and the FOCUS now for about three to four months. And I’ve had so many calls that say they feel as if they’re cured from their dry eyes,” Arlene recently said in a radio interview on the ‘Ask The Doctor’ radio show hosted by Dr. Lange. “They don’t have to use drops any more. They’re just amazed at what the omega-3—and the FOCUS but even the omega-3 alone—is doing for them. And it’s just great. I get calls every day, it’s just been amazing.”

Dr. Lange adds, “Our Fortifeye Super Omega, as you know, we can hardly keep it in stock. We’re selling it to doctors from all over the country, all over the world, and patients are calling in.”

“Yeah, it’s phenomenal. I mean, it’s just been huge,” says Arlene. “That’s why I’m calling, I just want so many people to know that, if they do have dry eyes… I never realized how severe it was until I started working here. It’s just terrible. And it’s helping some people so much. Especially since you’ve done the triple whammy, with the One-A-Day vitamin, the FOCUS and the Super Omega-3. It’s just, people are even finding relief from that. I mean, just two omega-3’s a day, one FOCUS and a vitamin and… it’s phenomenal. I’m just so happy for these people that are getting relief.”

Arlene’s journey to Fortifeye

Arlene Clark, manager and head of customer service at FortifeyeArlene knows from personal experience because she could not take many of the vitamins she had tried. It’s one of the reasons she become employed by Fortifeye Vitamins and head of customer service. Arlene is one of Fortifeye’s biggest advocates because she saw how well it actually worked for her. She tried many things and she could not take, literally, any vitamin out there.

“No, no, Fortifeye changed my life. I couldn’t—actually on my list of things I could not have, vitamins was on that list. Because they’re full of fillers, dyes, things that are—I have interstitial cystitis, a bladder condition. I can’t take anything unless it’s pure. My mother actually paid me to take the fish oil. She had to pay me,” she laughs. “Because I was nervous it would cause problems. And literally, the third day I had relief, pain-wise. And then, from there on, I mean, it’s changed my mental—the way I act and think—because chronic pain can, of course, just really mess with your central nervous system. So, with the FOCUS and the vitamin, I started that, and found out that I could take it with no problems, no pain, it’s actually helped me with all my problems. I grew all my hair back, and scars off my face, and I can go in the sun now, and not get sunburned. I wasn’t allowed to go in the sun before. And I do not get sunburned at all since I’ve started the FOCUS with the astaxanthin.”

“So, it’s really changed my life a lot. I feel like I can live now, basically. And that’s why I’m here.”

A walking billboard

Arlene Clark, manager and head of customer service at FortifeyeArlene has been described as a walking billboard and testimonial for Fortifeye Vitamins. Dr. Lange says the company is blessed to have Arlene on board. “Who better to be in charge of customer service and Fortifeye Vitamins than somebody who uses the products and believes in it one hundred percent?” he says.

The story of NanoLean™, a superfood

One of the new products sold at Lange Sun & Nutrition is a food supplement called NanoLean™. Arlene reported on the radio show that they were currently sold out. “We’re ordering it today, we can’t keep it in stock. It’s another thing that within the last two or three months, people have been calling me, coming into the store. We’re talking 20 pounds they’ve lost, I mean, it is phenomenal. It’s like with that, and then people again on the triple whammy, and taking the NanoLean they are losing so much weight. And I had a woman call the other day that said she just bought her first pair of jeans. Ever. And she’s never been able to lose weight. And she’s lost now, I believe it was 20 pounds. And I’m just, oh my goodness, the people that are benefitting from this, it’s amazing. And even the vitamin helps with weight loss.”

Dr. Lange adds, “That’s what it’s all about, absolutely. The vitamins do have things to help stimulate the metabolism, but healthily, not something that, you know, speeds up your heart rate or anything like that that can cause problems. Remember, if you give your body the fuel it needs on a cellular level, then it can work to its fullest potential and turn into a fat burning machine, also giving you enough energy to go out and start exercising. And once again if the cells are saturated, then you don’t have these hunger pangs, and these hunger binges, you know, for the junk food in the middle of the night. So it’s all about nutrition, and that’s why I developed Fortifeye Vitamins.”

The NanoLean is a food supplement favored by Dr. Lange. He says, “The NanoLean is very good. That’s a company called BioParma that actually manufactures it. But it helps to speed up the metabolism naturally and helps to to burn those pounds before the summer comes out, without really going on a diet.”

Arlene agrees. “Yeah, yeah. It’s literally—some people are doing some cardio, and things like that, but nothing outrageous. I mean, they’re eating normal, and they’re living their life like they did before. It’s really helping them lose weight and feel better about themselves. And that’s what’s so great about this store, people are so happy when they come in, ’cause they’ve always got a testimonial. And it’s just phenomenal, I love it.”

A body builder in the family

Whey Protein Isolate from Douglas Laboratories, available at Lange Sun & NutritionArlene’s family members are also becoming believers in the Fortifeye line of vitamins. “My husband, as you know, he’s a body builder. And he’s very serious into being a body builder. And he talks the Whey Protein Isolate from Douglas Laboratories that you were talking about on the radio. And that is just… it’s amazing. He loves that, you know, for being a heavy body builder.”

Her husband utilizes the astaxanthin in Fortifeye FOCUS for its benefits of better muscle recovery and muscle endurance. “He takes the Fortifeye FOCUS with the astaxanthin about 30 minutes before he works out. And he, of course, drinks the Whey Protein Isolate. It has helped him so much, and his workouts are so much stronger and easier.”

Olympic athletes and astaxanthin

Due to its benefits for muscle recovery and muscle endurance, Dr. Lange is reporting that Japanese Olympic athletes are using astaxanthin in training. So Arlene’s husband is in good company since he has also chosen the latest in nutrition technology.

Ocala eye doctor Michael Lange, optometrist, continues to expand quality eye care in Florida

Ocala eye doctor Michael Lange, optometrist, continues to expand quality eye care throughout Marion County and the entire state of Florida

Dr. Michael Lange, Ocala eye doctor, had a dream of developing an eye care center that would provide the highest quality eye care and nutrition for patients of all ages and all walks of life. His dream of providing the best Ocala eye care is now becoming a reality.

Dr. Michael Lange, Ocala eye doctorMichael Lange, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, received two undergraduate degrees in psychology and physiological optics before graduating from optometry school in Pennsylvania in 1992. While working in New Orleans, right out of school, gaining valuable experience at the Eye Surgery Center of Louisiana and at St. Charles Vision he did a demographic study of the country to determine where an optometrist would be most needed. His study determined that one of the fastest growing retired populations in the entire country in 1990 was a city in Marion County, Florida, called Ocala. Michael Lange, optometrist from New Orleans decided to leave his home town, family and friends and move to Ocala on March 15, 1993. This was a gamble that paid off for Michael Lange, Ocala eye doctor.

The Ocala eye doctor builds his reputation

Dr. Michael Lange moved to Ocala by himself and started Lange Eye Care and Associates in March, 1993. Dr. Lange states, “I was in the right place at the right time.” Dr. Lange fell in love with Ocala, Florida, and the surrounding areas. He said the landscape in Ocala, Florida, was not typical of Florida with its rolling hills and huge grand daddy oaks. The large grand daddy oak trees with the Spanish moss reminded him of the trees along St. Charles Avenue and Audubon and City Park in New Orleans. Dr. Lange was asked to host his own talk show called “Ask The Doctor” on a local AM radio station shortly after starting his first eye care center in Ocala. This talk show became quite popular and he began hosting this popular talk show on multiple radio stations in Ocala and Gainesville. The show focused on eye care and nutrition and was a live call-in show broadcast for one hour strategically placed during drive times in the morning, at noon and in the evening. Dr Lange’s eye care philosophy and smooth way of handling each caller on his radio show became a huge hit and sparked the beginning of his aggressive growth and expansion. Dr. Lange quickly became known as Michael Lange, the “Ocala Eye Doctor” that everyone wanted to see. Dr Lange’s reputation as the eye doctor that truly cares quickly spread and patients would drive from hundreds of miles around to see Dr. Michael Lange in Ocala, Florida. Dr Lange quickly expanded to Gainesville, Florida, and opened the second location of Lange Eye care in 1994. Dr. Lange quickly outgrew both of his locations in Ocala and Gainesville and in 1998 purchased a 15,000 square foot building on State Road 200 across from the Paddock Mall that became the headquarters for Lange Eye Care. He also moved his Gainesville office away from the mall and put it next to Target on Archer Road in a 7,000 square foot space. He then started to expand around his home office in Ocala, Florida, and opened offices in Williston, Inverness, Summerfield, West Ocala, The Villages and Clearwater.

The Lange Eye Institute

The Lange Eye InstituteThe Lange Eye Institute was built in the Villages in 2006 and is the flagship or crown jewel of the Lange Eye Care expansion. Dr. Michael Lange the Ocala eye doctor pulled from his New Orleans culture and decided to build a state-of-the-art eye care center that was modeled after an old plantation on the Mississippi river. The Lange Eye Institute is close to 30,000 square feet and is the largest eye care center of its type in the area. The Lange Eye institute in The Villages has specialty suites built for all aspects of eye care including pediatric, medical, surgical, nutritional and optical eye care. The Lange Eye Institute is home to many nutritional absorption studies developed by Dr. Michael Lange. Dr. Lange utilizes an in-house blood lab upstairs in The Lange Eye Institute to check absorption of specific nutrient combinations he has developed to aid in decreasing free radical damage in the eyes and body. Dr. Michael Lange of Ocala became a certified nutrition specialist in 2008 through The American College of Nutrition. Dr. Lange states, “This gives more credibility to what we are doing with the development of supplements for the eyes and entire body.” Dr. Lange started Fortifeye Vitamin Company in 2004 because he was not happy with the over the counter supplements that were available for his patients. Dr. Lange travels the world now in search of new ways of helping his patients through the right combinations of nutrition. Fortifeye Vitamins, as of 2011, has grown to a global company with seven specific nutritional supplements that target the eye and entire body. Doctors from all over the world are recommending Fortifeye Vitamins to their patients.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Omega Three?

Dr. Michael Lange, OD CNS explains the differences between triglyceride form fish oil and ethyl ester fish oils. Learn to enjoy the benefits of omega three fatty acids by taking a high quality omega three fish oil with improved bio availability and absorption. Fortifeye Super Omega provides the benefits of omega three fatty acids with higher EPA and DHA values in a triple molecularly distilled and concentrated triglyceride form fish oil.

BENEFITS OF OMEGA THREE FISH OIL
November 20, 2010 by Michael Lange OD, CNS

Omega three fatty acids are creating quite a lot of excitement and media coverage due to their potential health benefits.

What are the health benefits of omega three?Krill oil, fish oil, flax seed oil and squid oils all claim to be the best omega three sources. However, all of the different sources of omega three can be quite confusing to the consumer as well as the physician. What is the best source of omega three fatty acids? Which omega three oils have been studied the most? Where should you purchase your omega three fatty acids? Whom do you trust when purchasing omega three fatty acids?

Clearing up the confusion surrounding omega three fish oils

Recent negative media publicity on ‘Good Morning America’ in March 2010 alluded to the fact that many of the fish oils being purchased over the counter at some of the local commercial wholesale clubs and drugstores were contaminated with higher than acceptable amounts of PCB, a persistent organic pollutant banned in 1979 but still present in ocean waters.. This combined with Whole Foods Markets discontinuing all krill supplements sold in their stores for sustainability concerns has really created a lot of confusion about omega three.

Fish oil and cardiovascular disease

Omega three essential fatty acids are crucial for life and essential for optimal health. Demographic studies indicate that populations that consume more fresh fish are less prone to a variety of diseases. Populations that consume higher than normal levels of cold water fish have less heart disease and are less likely to have a fatal heart attack. The Inuit Indians of Greenland are an example of a particular culture that reaps the benefits of a diet higher in omega three fatty acids. The cultures that consume more cold water fatty fish seem to be less likely to have cardiovascular disease.

Sources of omega three

Wild Alaskan salmonMost of the large clinical studies that have documented the positive health benefits of omega three fatty acids have used fish consumption or fish oil consumption. There are thousands of studies supporting the positive health benefits of omega three from fish and fish oil. The FDA has given a “qualified health claim” for omega three fatty acids EPA and DHA stating “supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.” The medical community has readily accepted these positive health benefits and is prescribing and recommending fish oil supplements to their patients. Many consumers are also becoming proactive in their health and practicing prevention by consuming more fish or purchasing fish oil supplements from the drug store or health food store. However, one must be careful with consuming too much fish because of the potential contaminants that are in particular types of fish. With all of the contaminants that are accidentally and purposely deposited into the oceans it is becoming more and more difficult to recommend consuming large amounts of fish. I personally feel that most sardines, wild Alaskan salmon and wild caught rainbow trout are still species of fish that are relatively safe. I do not recommend people to consume large amounts of tuna, grouper, sword fish, redfish or other large predatory fish, and I am reluctant to eat anything from the Gulf of Mexico since the BP oil spill. I highly recommend people avoid farm raised fish especially farm raised salmon. Farm raised salmon have a higher ratio of omega six than wild caught salmon and are relatively high in contaminants and contain a synthetic astaxanthin (a dye in place of real astaxanthin) that gives it the orange color.

Ethyl ester fish oil versus triglyceride form fish oil – which is better?

Omega three fish oil basically comes in two readily available forms, ethyl ester fish oil and triglyceride form fish oil. I do not recommend taking the ethyl ester version of omega three fish oil for a variety of reasons. The ethyl ester form of fish oil is highly unstable and therefore it can oxidize and become rancid quicker than the triglyceride form of fish oil. If you open up a capsule of fish oil and it smells really bad and then you bite into it and it tastes really bad then it is possible it is rancid. This is one of the reasons many people get a nasty after taste or problems burping up an unpleasant taste from the ethyl ester form of fish oil. Studies also indicate that the triglyceride form omega three fish oil absorbs much faster and more efficiently therefore increasing bio availability. Most fish oil that is being sold OTC or as a prescription in the United States is the ethyl ester version because it is significantly less expensive to manufacture. The final phase in the purification of a triglyceride form fish oil requires the ethyl ester molecule to be cleaved off and replaced with a triglyceride molecule thus making it a more natural omega three fish oil than the ethyl ester version. The triglyceride form omega three fish oils are highly concentrated and highly refined and purified making them the ideal choice for consumers. If you do not know if your fish oil is an ethyl ester version or triglyceride version then call the customer service department on the bottle. You can also squeeze the contents of your fish oil into a Styrofoam cup and see what happens. If the cup starts to melt after 15 to 20 minutes then you have an ethyl ester version. However, some products with very low concentrations of ethyl ester fish oil may not melt the cup. When looking for a triglyceride form fish oil look for levels of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA that will truly have some effect. I recommend finding an omega three fish oil supplement that has an EPA between 400-450 per gel cap and a DHA of around 250-300 per gel cap. These are the levels that I have studied using the latest in omega three testing and have found that the consumption of two gel caps a day of this concentration can increase your omega index to a desirable level over 8%. The omega 3 index measures the concentration of EPA and DHA as a percent of total essential fatty acids in the red blood cell membranes. Recent research is proving that the desirable level for cardio protection is an omega index over 8%. This research claims that levels greater than 8% correlate with a 90% reduction in the potential for a fatal heart attack. The vast majority of Americans have an omega index around 4%.

Are all omega three fatty acids pretty much the same?

I have tested numerous ethyl ester fish oils, flax seed oils and krill oils and have not found anywhere near the improvements in the omega index with these other types of omega three fatty acids. So all omega three supplements are not created equal! Most of the inferior brands of fish oil will be relatively inexpensive. A highly refined and purified triglyceride form omega three fish oil will cost between $20- $45 for a one month supply. I recommend investing in your health and spending a little extra when purchasing a fish oil supplement.

What are the health benefits of omega three fish oil?

Omega three fatty acids have been associated with a variety of positive health benefits. Omega three fatty acids are associated with a healthier heart, decreasing your risk of a heart attack, and new studies also indicate it may help lessen the chances of developing atrial fibrillation. Omega three fatty acids may help improve cognitive abilities and reduce depression. Increased circulation to the brain and the entire body is also one of the benefits of omega three consumption. Omega three fatty acids may slow down chromosomal aging by slowing down the rate the end cap of a chromosome (the telomere) shortens. Omega three is a very potent natural anti-inflammatory and may help with a variety of inflammatory conditions in the body. Many people notice improved health of their skin, nails and hair after consuming a good omega three supplement. Omega three consumption is proving to be helpful in patients with dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction and macular degeneration. Ischemic stroke reduction and the treatment of elevated triglycerides are potential benefits of taking a good omega three fish oil. Children experience increased attention span and are less likely to be diagnosed with ADHD when they consume more omega three fatty acids. Taking a good triglyceride form omega three fish oil on a daily basis is one step in prevention that everyone at any age should be taking. Another recent study suggests that an increase in omega three fish oil may decrease prevalence of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

How do I choose between fish, krill, squid or flax seed oil?

Earlier in the article I stated, “All omega threes are not created equal.” This is so true. You hear infomercials, you see ads in magazines and the paper, and watch talk show hosts on television all promoting their particular omega three, all the while stating they offer “the best on the market”. How do you figure out what is legitimate and what is marketing hype? I think all omega three experts will agree that the most bio available form of omega three comes from marine sources like fish, squid or krill. Plant based omega three are not a readily available source of the two most important essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Flax seed oil is a poor source of omega three essential fatty acids and it oxidizes very quickly. It may be rancid by the time you consume it. Chia, hemp, perilla and marine plant life may be a better plant source of omega three fatty acids than flax seed oil. You must determine which form of omega three is right for you. If you have a shell fish allergy you should stay away from krill oil since it is possible to have an allergic reaction to krill oil. The proteins and antigens are not refined out of the krill oil. I think krill has a future as a good alternative to omega three fish oil; however the concentration of krill in most supplements is still relatively low and quite expensive. Krill does have phospholipids that improve the absorption of this omega three and a small amount of astaxanthin (a super carotenoid) naturally in the oil. If there becomes available a more concentrated, highly refined krill oil on the market, then I may change my mind. However, at this time the majority of krill oil only has approximately 40 to 100 mg per serving of total omega three and this amount has shown very limited improvement in the omega three index and other omega blood studies we have been analyzing. Krill oil studies are very limited at this time and therefore it is very difficult to determine the potential positive or negative impact krill may have. A good quality omega three concentrated triglyceride fish oil will have an omega three value of approximately 1500-1600 per serving combined EPA, DHA and DPA. There are some that say krill is being over harvested in the Antarctic region and this could hurt the ecological system. This is why Whole Foods pulled all krill off the shelves in early 2010.

Get a good quality highly refined triglyceride form fish oil

I think squid oil has a future as a player in the omega three industry, but currently I do not recommend it since it is still an ethyl ester form fish oil. However, once squid oil is available in the triglyceride form I think it will be a good alternative to TG form fish oil. There is a class action suit that was initiated in early 2010 claiming many of the ethyl ester fish oils that are purchased at the local drug store, warehouse club or vitamin store were filled with higher than acceptable levels of contaminants, especially PCPs. Consumers must be careful when purchasing fish oil from a local store or on the Internet unless you know what you are getting. Ethyl ester fish oils may taste and smell bad due to a fast rate of oxidation. These oils have a much poorer rate of absorption than a triglyceride form fish oil and may have higher than the acceptable levels of contaminants in the oil. I recommend spending a little extra money to get a good quality highly refined triglyceride form fish oil and start to gain the valuable health benefits of omega three fatty acids from fish oil. When looking at the label make sure it states triglyceride form or TG form fish oil on the bottle. If it doesn’t say it, it probably isn’t a triglyceride form.

The highest quality omega three fish oil possible

Fortifeye Super Omega-3 Fish Oil box imageAfter becoming very frustrated with the lack of good quality fish oil available to the consumer at the local drug stores and health food stores I decided to develop the highest quality omega three fish oil possible. Years of research and a trip to the most advanced omega three factories in the world in Norway led to the development of Fortifeye Super Omega, a highly refined and concentrated triglyceride form fish oil with an EPA of almost 900 and a DHA of almost 600 in two gel caps. This omega three fish oil is designed to be swallowed or chewed. It has a very good natural lemon flavor and has no after taste or odor. This is a great fish oil for patients that have difficulty swallowing or vegetarians that do not want to swallow the gel outer capsule. This high quality omega three fish oil is independently evaluated to be free of any contaminants. Fortifeye Vitamins has done multiple blood tests proving the superior bio availability and absorption properties. The omega three index rises significantly at two weeks and almost 100% of participants in the studies had an omega index of over 8% after one month with a daily dose of two capsules. Studies suggest that an omega index greater than 8% correlates with a 90% reduction in the possibility of a fatal heart attack. Doctors all over the globe are recommending Fortifeye Super Omega and thousands of people world wide are enjoying the health benefits of this higher quality fish oil. Fortifeye Super Omega is concentrated and refined by one of the most experienced teams in Ålesund, Norway. If you want the very best fish oil then consider taking Fortifeye Super Omega.
