Genetic testing in Macular Degeneration will help develop proper nutritional plan

Michael Lange OD, CNS states that new science now  allows Optometrists and Ophthalmologists to prescribe specific supplements  for macular degeneration patients based on their genotype. A simple in office DNA test can be done on a patient that determines what particular type of genes an AMD patient has.  Michael Lange OD, CNS says we now know that patients with a particular genotype may actually be harmed by zinc and yet another patient with a different combination of DNA may benefit from Zinc and antioxidants.  This new in house genetic test will allow eye care providers to customize their nutritional regiment to each patient.  Dr. Lange states with this new genetic science being published eye care providers that are making nutritional recommendations to their AMD patients will benefit from doing the genetic test on their patients.  Lange Eye Care has been involved in gentic testing for a couple of years .  Fortifeye Vitamins is coming out with a zinc free eye vitamin in response to this new science. here is this recent study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23972322
